MEA Energy Association, formerly known as the Midwest Gas Association (MGA), has a rich history spanning over 115 years. It all began in 1905 when a small group of local gas companies gathered in Des Moines, Iowa to share ideas and address common challenges. Over time, MGA expanded its reach and membership to include nearly 100 gas and electric energy delivery companies.
Throughout its history, MEA has played a pivotal role in the energy industry. They have organized conferences, developed training programs, and provided resources to promote operational excellence and safety standards. Notable milestones include the introduction of consensus-based tests and learning materials for the gas industry, the management of the National Gas Rodeo since 1995, and the establishment of Energetic Women—an initiative to prepare women for leadership roles in operations and engineering.
In 1998, MGA expanded its scope to include electric distribution companies and became known as the Midwest ENERGY Association (MEA). They continued to evolve by offering comprehensive education programs for both gas and electric sectors. In recent years, MEA adopted a refreshed brand identity as MEA Energy Association with the tagline "MEA Learning Empowers," reflecting their commitment to empowering the energy industry through education, leadership development, and industry connections.
Today, MEA is known for its EnergyU platform—a leading system for learning and compliance management in the energy sector. They offer over 430 online training courses covering various topics such as Operator Qualification (OQ), ASME standards, safety compliance, and more. MEA also publishes a quarterly members-only magazine called "Energy | Empowered," featuring member interviews and industry articles.
MEA Energy Association continues to be at the forefront of providing valuable resources to support the growth and success of professionals working in natural gas and electric delivery companies.
