Spectrum Health Services, Inc. (SHS) has a rich history dating back to 1967. It was initially established as Better Family Planning, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that opened its first clinic, the Greater St. Matthews Medical Health Center. Over the years, SHS expanded its reach and opened several more health centers in Philadelphia.
In 1984, the organization changed its name to Spectrum Health Services, Inc. and became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The following years saw the opening of new health centers and the expansion of services offered, including family planning, prenatal care, pediatric care, and adult health services.
SHS has been committed to improving community health and providing comprehensive healthcare services. They have also been involved in establishing school-based health programs and implementing outreach initiatives.
Today, Spectrum Health Services continues to serve the medical needs of Philadelphia residents with fully accredited medical, dental, OB-GYN, podiatry, and specialty care services. They are recognized by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and listed as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
