Tri-Con Materials, formerly known as Walnut Sand and Gravel, has a rich history in the aggregate industry. The company was originally formed in 1968 by Richard 'Dick' Nelson and his brother Ronald Nelson. They operated gravel pits in Walnut, Hennepin, and Henry, providing top-quality washed aggregates for asphalt, concrete, and base material applications. In 1992, Richard formed Tri-Con Materials alongside partners Steve Nelson and Steve Harmon. The company was based in Serena in LaSalle County at that time. In 1997, Tri-Con Materials merged with Walnut Sand and Gravel to become the operating entity it is today.

Tri-Con Materials is currently based at their Hennepin location, which houses their largest active gravel pit on the Illinois River and barge-loading facilities. Throughout their 54 years of operation, Tri-Con Materials has remained committed to providing the highest quality aggregate materials to their customers in Illinois.
